What is a Gastroenterologist?

Gastroenterologists are expert physicians in the diagnosis and management of diseases of the digestive system. The digestive system is vast and includes the oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, small bowel and colon. There are many disorders which can arise from these organ systems, some of which are listed below. 
Gastroenterologists also provide screening or surveillance endoscopic procedures, most often colonoscopy, for individuals at increased risk of gastrointestinal cancer.
